What is Gift Aid?
Gift Aid is a way of increasing the value of your donations to charity at no cost to you.
UK Charities are entitled to 28% tax reclaim from the Inland Revenue using Gift Aid. This means that if you give £1, the charity can reclaim 28p from the tax man so they actually get £1.28 for every £1 you give!
How do I use Gift Aid?
When you make a donation, the charity will usually ask you to complete a simple form declaring that you are a UK tax payer and wish to use Gift Aid.
If you make your donation by phone, you can give a verbal declaration that you wish to use Gift Aid which the charity will confirm later in writing.
You need to complete a separate form for each charity you donate to but one form can cover many gifts to the same charity.
