My name is Digby, I’m Anna's pet.
Anna rescued me when I was a stray. I have to visit the vet a lot  but I don’t mind because he’s really nice and I get to see lots of other pets at the surgery.
I love running around outside with Anna and I’m really good at doing tricks with a small red ball.

Can you keep a secret?
It isn't Easy being a Mouse at Christmas

It's nearly the summer which means Anna will be at home all the time to play with me! I'm so excited because I love spending time with her. We are going to Cornwall to stay by the coast.

"You don't have to travel abroad to be by the sea Digby" Anna told me. "I'm going to take you surfing Digby!"

Usually I'm all up for adventures. I love travelling and doing new things, especially fun things. But the one thing I'm scared of is water. The sea most of all, it's so big and deep and scary! Plus mice aren't normally very good at swimming! I tried to hide my fear from Anna. I didn't want her to see I was scared, but deep down I was.

When Anna left for school I spoke to my fellow mice friends Rover and Boxer. Boxer said he used to go swimming in the puddles left by the rain and he loved it. He could always stand up in them though, so he felt safe.

"I don't think I could stand up in the sea though!” he told me. “Going in the puddles was just like having a nice bath, my fur was lovely and soft and shiny afterwards! It was a lot of fun."

I was still very scared, even after the encouraging words from my friends. I still couldn't tell Anna and by the time we were in Cornwall it was too late. I thought she was so brave to want to try surfing and I didn't want to be a coward. I thought if she could do it then so could I!

"Best friends stick together" I kept chanting to myself in my head.

Before we went in the sea however, Anna whispered in my ear, "Oh Digby! I don't know if I can do this! Look how big and deep the sea is! What about all the creatures under the water as well. I'm very scared Digby!"

It made me feel so much better to realise I wasn't the only one who was scared! Somehow, once I knew Anna was also scared I felt more determined to do it so told her it was best we tackled our fears together.

So, we went into the water and got on her surfing board and guess what?
It was the most fun I've ever had! Anna said the same. We did it again and again.

Turns out it wasn't scary after all. It's hard to be brave, but we did it together!
